This new car is going to ‘replace’ Suzuki Mehran in Pakistan

It’s just couple of days to an official announcement from Suzuki that it has discontinued production of Mehran after 30 years. But what’s going to be the replacement, an economical one for the people? Well, there is some buzz making rounds.

According to reports, Suzuki’s 660 CC Alto is going to hit the roads very soon, it’s being dubbed ‘affordable’ at a reported cost of Rs 11 lacs (1.1 million). Going by any view, the cost doesn’t make it affordable for a large segment of population. But we have to wait for an official confirmation.

The Dawn newspaper reported that ‘ever-green’ Mehran used to be the first option of many people graduating from two-wheelers to four-wheelers. The small car played a big role in developing country’s vendor base owing to 70pc local parts.

It is also reported that car prices in Pakistan have gone up drastically ssince beginning of this year owing to exchange rate depreciation.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL) is expected to hold an exhibition to display the new 660cc car at the Pakistan Auto Parts Show that is going to be held in Karachi from April 12-14.
