The Supreme Court of Pakistan was informed on Feb 12 during a hearing that Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was being paid Rs Rs959,468 in gross salary.
The PIA made these comments in defence of the appointment of Air Marshal Arshad Malik as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, according to ET report.
The company’s board has told the Supreme Court that, “owing to chronic mismanagement contributing to colossal losses running into billions, it was deemed appropriate and necessary that personnel from the armed forces, especially the Air Force, be given the opportunity to apply for the position of PIAC CEO”.
PIAC’s Board has also submitted a concise statement through its counsel, Salman Akram Raja, in the apex court regarding the alleged illegal appointment of the PIA CEO. The statement shares complete details of eight Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officers who are working on deputation in the department.
The statement says that the PIA CEO was being paid Rs959,468 in gross salary; Air Commodore Aamer Altaf, the Chief Human Resources (HR) Officer, was being paid Rs639,778; Air Commodore Khalid Barlas, the Chief Information Officer, Rs596,464; Air Commodore Jibran Saleem Butt, the Sky Rooms Ltd CEO, Rs561,574; Air Commodore Jawad Zafar, the Chief Corporate Development Officer, Rs595,414; Air Commodore Shahid Qadir, the Head of Security, Rs537,154; Wing Commander Muhammad Asim, the General Manager, Accounting, Rs446, 229; and Wing Commander Kamran Anjum, the Speed Ex Courier General Manager, was being paid Rs374,770.
