The Lahore High Court on Wednesday (April 10) ordered singer Meesha Shafi to pay Rs 10,000 fine in a defamation suit she had filed against Ali Zafar.
The court imposed the fine after Shafi’s lawyer didn’t appear before the LHC bench for the case proceedings.
Ambreen Qureshi, who is representing Ali Zafar stated that Shafi’s failure to appear in court was a blatant attempt to delay the case.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned till April 17.
In April last year (2018), Shafi had taken to Twitter to publicly accuse Zafar of physically harassing her on “more than one occasion”. “This happened to me despite the fact I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind!” her statement had read.
Zafar, on the other hand, had “categorically” denied the allegations and threatened to take legal action against the actress.
